Some facts about Home Care in Canada;
If you or someone you know is thinking about getting home care in Canada, consider these facts:
- Canadians over the age of 65 make up 12% of the population. In the year
2021, just 20 years from now, they will reflect 20% of the population. That
is 1 in 5 people.
- Women make up 57% of our senior population. 70% of seniors aged 85 and
older are women.
- Canada's first Baby Boomers will turn 65 in 2016. Boomers will continue to flow over that
age milestone until 2036, whilst many of the first Baby Boomers will still be
enjoying an active and productive life at 85.
- Over ½ the women aged 80 years and older, still live on their own and the
number is ever increasing.
- The estimation of care given in an institution is approximately 10 times
more expensive than adequate care provided in an elderly person's own home.
- Senior women are twice as likely to be poor as men of the same age.
- Senior women are more likely to get support with emotional matters through
visits from caregivers than senior men.
- Senior men are more likely to be in need of help with housework.
